2024 Europe International Championships

The Europe International Championships saw the largest turn out ever for Pokemon GO with 320 trainers battling it out to be crowned the EUIC champion. These trainers were battling for much more than just bragging rights, the prizes included $25,000 in prize money and up to 500 championship points including auto qualification for the top 2 players for the 2024 World Championships in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Pokemon GO Groups

Day 1 of the Europe International Championships started with the 320 trainers being split into 16 groups as they all fought for the 32 spots in top cut. Alex “Doonebug97” Doone starts the weekend off in Group D as the 3rd seed overall, his run to the winners finals of his pool saw him not drop a single game heading into the match that would decide his fate for the entire weekend. His final match of day one was against Hikhami who was the next seeded player in his group, after a close series Doonebug97 came out on top in game 3 and was the first American to reach top cut at EUIC.

Only 32 trainers made it to day 2 of the Europe International Championships for Pokemon GO, including 5 American players. The dreams of America taking another win across the seas was still alive as Doonebug97 started on the winners side. His journey day 2 included many tough battles against players such as Scafo99, PvpDavid07 and Paulasha97. Scafo99 and PvpDavid07 both took Doonebug97 to intense game 3 series but thanks to Nightslash Boosts and 1HP and a Dream it saw Doonebug97 secure top 4 as the lone American still left in the competition. A trophy secured and 250 Championship Points was not enough for Doonebug97, he wanted a spot in Championship Sunday where only the best 3 trainers got to play in.

The only trainer keeping him from that was Paulasha97, the legendary trainer out of Barcelona who has torn through the losers bracket with a shadow Magnezone. The final match up of day 2 saw Doonebug97 and Paulasha97 fight it out for a spot on the championship podium where only one of them could be crowned a finalist. After some strong leads the series end in favor of Doonebug97 as he advanced to Championship Sunday at EUIC.

Championship Sunday

Championship Sunday at the Europe International Championships started with Doonebug97 facing off against Sandodou in losers finals, the trainer who sent Doonebug97 to the losers bracket in day 2. Starting off the day on a high note of being the only American left while now holding over 1,300 CP helped Doonebug97 take a 3-0 sweep and secured his spot in Grand Finals of Pokemon GO.

Now the only one who remained was the final boss of Europe, MEweedle who is not only the defending EUIC champion but also the first ever Pokemon GO World Championships of the Seniors Division. After an action packed best of 5 series MEweedle came out on top to be crowned the EUIC Champion.

After a weekend of over 320 trainers battling it out in the United Kingdom in the largest ever event for Pokemon GO, Alex “Doonebug97” Doone finishes 2nd and thanks to the energy from the USA crowd stole an International trophy from Europe. Doonebug97 now stands alone at the top of the leader boards with a total of 1,397 Championship Points.
